Travel Photo of the Day: Candles at Buddha’s Birthplace

Pilgrims come every day from all over the globe to pray and visit the exact spot where Buddha was born under a Bodhi tree. Thousands of candles are lit and carefully placed, eventually turning into puddles of melted wax that the monks have to clean up!

Travel Photo of the Day: Prayer Wheels in Nepal

During the Annapurna Circuit Trek when we visited Nepal, we would pass through villages high in the Himalayas. Long lines of Prayer Wheels were situated at the start and end of most of the larger villages. Always keeping to the left, you would spin each one as you passed it, bringing good luck and safety on your journey. The level of detail on carvings and paintings were incredible!

Swayambhunath, otherwise known as The Monkey Temple is a huge Buddhist and Hindu temple site and home to hundreds of monkeys in Kathmandu. It is an important pilgrimage place for many Buddhists and Hindus around the world.
