Being in the neighbourhood in Kerala, on the south west tip of India – we simply couldn’t pass up a visit to the Matha Amrithanandamayi Ashram. Where you can stay, meditate and get a chance of hugging ‘Amma’ herself.
Here are a few things that are in my backpack that I’ve found invaluable. You probably won’t see some of these items on most packing lists, and some might be a bit squeamish about it all. But I feel girls should be as prepared as possible for what the traveller trail throws at them.
Leaving Varkala was like leaving a loved one and starting a new adventure. The serene beach life, the western food and beers at sunset would be behind us as we pushed further north towards Kerala’s famous backwaters.
