If you want to get away from the crowds in Thamel, but still be in the Kathmandu area then Sanu Guesthouse is only a 15 minute taxi or bus ride away. Run by the friendly Sarita whose smile alone is worth coming for.

We felt compelled to write a little piece about Sanu Guesthouse as we loved our stay so much. Her guesthouse has gone from strength to strength since she opened in January, and we thought a little bit of Am I Nearly There Yet? promotion would be a nice thank you for a lovely stay.

The rooms are clean and basic, but with modern amenities like wi-fi and hot water in the shared bathroom. It’s good value as the price includes breakfast and it’s only a small amount more for a Nepali vegetarian lunch or dinner.

For a genuine Nepali meal experience everyone sits on cushions on the kitchen floor (or a chair if you prefer), sharing food and chatting all night. It’s a great place to meet other travellers and share stories of Nepal.

Sanu Guesthouse is walking distance to Durbar Square, Patan, the historical centre. Its easy enough to get out to the Kathmandu Valley, or to nearby towns like the spiritual Bodhnath and Pashupatinath. If you need any travel advise or ideas on what to do locally, Sarita is very helpful and will make sure you get to the right place.
