Packing For a City Break

weekend-away

City breaks are one of life’s great pleasures. A long weekend of self indulgence in another exciting city with a healthy dash of retail therapy, gourmet cuisine, delicious drinks and great company – just what the doctor ordered! Whether it’s a last minute mini-adventure or a romantic retreat, city breaks are a great choice for all.

Packing for a city break can be a bit of a headache. There are so many things to consider, from the location and weather to day time and evening activities.

Here are some tips to keep in mind when packing for your city break.

Type of City Break

With so many types of city breaks available, from a cultural tour around Paris, catching a football match in Barcelona, shopping in New York City to bar hopping in Budapest. You could even go somewhere further away. Organising a trip to Cyprus for the weekend for example is growing in popularity. You need to consider what activities you’ll be doing the most, and who you are going with to make sure you pack appropriately.

City Break Weekend Bag

Given that city breaks are usually just a few days, you don’t want to be wasting time waiting for your luggage to arrive. So it’s best to take a small weekend bag that fits in the overhead compartment in the cabin. Check with the airline or tour operator the measurements and weight allowance for hand luggage.

What to Pack

When packing for city breaks, it’s best to pack a few staple clothing items such as jeans and smart coat, which can worn in the day and dressed up for the evening. Wearing larger clothes on the airplane will free up some space. Accessories are essential for weekend retreats – so pop in your favourite scarves and jewellery to look great and be comfortable. If you are going to be walking several blocks in Manhattan, a classy pair of flats or boots will ensure you hit as many shops as you can without feet ache. Don’t forget to downsize toiletries to travel size containers to save on weight and space.

Once you’ve packed your bag, passport and sense of adventure – it’s time to explore the bright city lights!
